- The Return (Second Coming) of the Messiah -
Jesus Christ died
on a cross but death could not hold Him. Three days later he was resurrected.
He could have claimed victory over the devil's schemes and finished off
that Serpent immediately. He did not. In stead He gave people the chance
to voluntarily choose and accept salvation on His
conditions.
People have many objections
about God's ways of offering salvation. We should however accept without
demur. Would not the one who created us and loves us, know how to return
us to a path of enternal life? Trust Him for it, now the time is still
there for acception.

C.S. Lewis responded
to people's objections in his book "Mere Christianity"
Another possible objection is this: Why is God landing in this enemy-occupied
world in disguise and starting a sort of secret society to undermine the
devil? Why is He not landing in force, invading it? Is it that He is not
strong enough? Well, Christians think He is going to land in force. We
do not know when. But we can guess why He is delaying. He wants to give
us the chance of joining His side freely. I do not suppose you and I would
have thought much of a Frenchman who waited until the allies were marching
into Germany and then announced he was on our side. God will invade. But
I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in
our world quite realize what it will be like when He does. When that happens,
it is the end of the world. When the author walks
onto the stage, the play is over. God is going to invade all right.
But what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see
the whole natural universe, melting away like a dream, and something else,
something it never entered your head to conceive comes crashing in. Something
so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will
have any choice left. For this time it will be God without disguise. Something
so overwhelming, that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible
horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side.
There is no use saying you could choose to lie down when it is become
impossible to stand up. That will not be the time for choosing. It will
be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen. Whether
we realized it before or not. Now, today, this moment is our chance to
choose the right side.
God is holding back to give us that chance. It will not last forever.
We must take it or leave it.

The disciples witnessed Jesus going to
His father and heard the promise that He would return in the same way they
saw Him being taken up.
Acts 1:10-11
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly
two men dressed in white stood beside them. [11] "Men of Galilee,"
they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same
Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the
same way you have seen him go into heaven."
C.S. Lewis did
not make up the reason why Jesus did not return yet, He took the answer
from God's Word.
2 Peter 3:8-18
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the
Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
[9] The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness,
but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to
come to repentance. [10] But the day of the Lord will come like a
thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements
will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will
be burned up. [11] Since all these things are to be destroyed in this
way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
[12] looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of
which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will
melt with intense heat! [13] But according to His promise we are looking
for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
[14] Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent
to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, [15] and regard the
patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul,
according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, [16] as also in all his
letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard
to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also
the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. [17] You therefore,
beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not
carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,
[18] but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
